Assistant Principal

Hi Hawks! My name is Anakaren Leslie and I am honored to step into the Assistant Principal role at Sour Lake Elementary in January. This year marks my 10th year in education, and I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to continue serving at THE best school and district in Southeast Texas! I am a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ’em!) and earned my Master’s degree and Principal Certification from Lamar University (Peck 'em!).

My husband and I are blessed to live in and raise our two children in this uplifting community. Both of our kids attend and are actively involved in all things Hardin-Jefferson, and it means so much to grow as a family within a district we truly love.

Stepping into this role excites me because I get to continue being part of a district built on community pride, student success, and a commitment to academic and emotional well-being. I am passionate about continuing to move the needle forward by creating a school environment where all students feel safe, supported, and empowered to thrive.

I am SO excited to partner with our families, students, staff, and community to continue the incredible work happening at Sour Lake Elementary. Here’s to growth, collaboration, and celebrating the success of every student!
